Occupational Therapy/ Sensory
Occupational Therapy services at Manville include individual work with students, classroom-based group work, and teacher consultation. Students are referred to OT for a variety of issues including weaknesses in sensory processing, hand skill development, and/or visual-motor integration. Classroom-based groups address fine motor skills, handwriting, as well as difficulties students may have in regulating sensory input from their environment. Through OT consultation, teachers utilize a variety of classroom “sensory diet” accommodations to help students modulate sensory input. Within Manville classrooms, students utilize sensory diet items, e.g. therapy ball chairs, Sit and Move cushions, headphones, hand fidget items, filtered music and/or weighted vests and blankets. Our Occupational Therapists also provides consultation and training to counseling and clinical staff and work with parents to help them understand their child’s OT needs
