January 17, 2007
Boston, MA – On Monday, January 15, 2007 Judge Baker Children’s Center’s Media Center welcomed more than 150 guests to the annual Camille O. Cosby “Walk A Mile In My Shoes” Essay Contest Award Ceremony and ‘Say it Write’ Conference. 70 girls (from all over Boston and the surrounding community) wrote personal essays about the joys, challenges, and hardships in their young lives. Winners from two age categories (11-12 and 13-14) were selected by a panel of 11 judges, including local author, Linda Barnes. The essay contest is funded by Dr. Camille O. Cosby, noted producer, educator, and philanthropist.
Before the award ceremony, 50 local girls also participated in the ‘Say
it Write’ Conference, a series of workshops that encourage young girls
to express themselves through writing, poetry, dance, sewing, and in other
creative ways.
