Judge Baker Children’s Center hosts the Camille O. Cosby “Walk a Mile in My Shoes” Essay Contest
January 12, 2007
Boston, MA – Judge Baker Children’s Center’s Media Center provides a unique opportunity for Boston area girls to share their experiences of growing up today through the Camille O. Cosby “Walk A Mile In My Shoes” Essay Contest and ‘Say it Write’ Conference for writing and self-expression. The essay contest encourages girls, ages 10-14, to write personal essays about the joys, challenges, and hardships in their young lives. The Center, dedicated to ensuring the well-being of children, seeks to increase awareness about issues facing young urban girls by providing this forum for their voices to be heard.
The essay contest is funded by Dr. Camille O. Cosby, noted producer, educator, and philanthropist. For the past five years, girls throughout Boston have used the contest to articulate their responses to the pressures of school, peer relationships, and family concerns. Similarly, the ‘Say it Write’ Conference provides young girls with an opportunity to express themselves through writing, poetry, dance, sewing, and many other creative workshops.
The Media Center will announce essay contest winners at an award luncheon
held at Judge Baker Children’s Center on January 15, 2007. Members
of the media are welcome to take photos, interview participants, and view
excerpts from the submitted essays. The Media is also welcome to participate
in the Conference and associated workshops.
