Judge Baker Children’s Center honored 85 local girls at the Camille O. Cosby “Walk a Mile in My Shoes” Essay Contest Award Ceremony

Boston, MA – On Monday, January 16, 2006 Judge Baker Children’s Center’s Media Center welcomed more than 150 guests to the annual Camille O. Cosby “Walk A Mile In My Shoes” Essay Contest Award Ceremony and ‘Say it Write’ Conference. The turnout was the largest in the event’s 6-year history. A record 85 girls (from all over Boston and the surrounding community) wrote personal essays about the joys, challenges, and hardships in their young lives. Winners from two age categories (11-12 and 13-14) were selected by a panel of 20 judges, including 2 local authors, Linda Barnes and Dr. Perri Klass. The essay contest is funded by Dr. Camille O. Cosby, noted producer, educator, and philanthropist.

Before the award ceremony, 45 local girls also participated in the ‘Say it Write’ Conference, a series of workshops that encourage young girls to express themselves through writing, poetry, dance, jewelry-making, and in other creative ways.
