Assistant Teacher
Description:
Function as a co-teacher in the classroom with responsibilities for curriculum implementation, classroom management. Ideal Grad. Internship position, excellent supervision and training. Competitive salary. Must have a BA and experience working with similar population.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan and implement individualized and small group lessons in specific curriculum areas.
- Design curriculum appropriate to student skill level and learning style.
- Actively participate in the daily operation of the classroom including academic instruction and classroom management.
- Employ appropriate and successful behavior management techniques during individual, small and large group activities.
- Establish realistic behavioral expectations and follow through on limit setting and processing of behavior with students
- Fosters positive self-esteem and social growth within the classroom.
- Actively participates in weekly meetings with mentor teacher for planning and preparation of curriculum and discussion of behavioral issues;
- Actively participates in weekly joint supervision with mentor teacher and classroom educational supervisor;
- Actively participates in monthly curriculum meetings and in-service workshops as scheduled;
- Actively participates in weekly classroom meetings, clinical case conferences,
and bi-weekly floor meetings.
Qualifications and Skills
- BA in Education or related field, experience with special needs students in a classroom setting preferred
- Must have the ability to be flexible and to work collaboratively
