Center Overview

Established in 1994, Judge Baker’s Media Center seeks to unite media professionals, mental health practitioners and classroom educators in a single common pursuit: ensuring the health and well-being of children. Through researching and evaluating the impact of modern media on the lives and choices of young people, the Media Center identifies its potentially harmful effects and works to persuade today’s decision-makers in the media to develop responsible, positive and enriching programming for children.

The Center is currently developing fitness, confidence-building and media literacy activities for girls; creating classroom materials addressing issues such as prejudice, racism and diversity; addressing the media’s role in childhood obesity. In 2000, the Center launched an innovative effort to combat the negative impacts of inappropriate marketing to children.
