John R. Weisz, PhD, ABPP joined Judge Baker Children’s Center on September 1, 2004. Following in the footsteps of his predecessor, Stuart T. Hauser, MD, PhD, Weisz is committed to improving the lives of children whose emotional and behavioral problems threaten to limit their potential.
Weisz grew up in Mississippi and received his BA from Mississippi College. After serving as a U.S. Peace Corps volunteer in Kenya, he attended Yale University, where he received his PhD in clinical and developmental psychology.
Weisz came to Judge Baker Children’s Center from the University of California at Los Angeles, where he had been Professor in the Departments of Psychology and Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences for the past 14 years. He is currently Director of the Network on Youth Mental Health, funded by the MacArthur Foundation. Weisz’s research, which he will continue at Judge Baker, focuses on promoting youth mental health through intervention programs in schools and community centers.
