Erika K. Coles, Ph.D. – STP Director, Primary Investigator
Dr. Coles is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Maine in Orono as well as the director of the Summer Treatment Program at Judge Baker Children’s Center. Dr. Coles received her Ph.D. (2007) in clinical psychology from the State University of New York/University at Buffalo. As a graduate student at SUNY Buffalo she studied with Dr. William Pelham, creator of the Summer Treatment Program. Dr. Coles completed her pre-doctoral internship at University of Mississippi Medical Center in 2006. Her research interests include behavioral, pharmacological, and combined interventions for ADHD.

Ana M. Ugueto, Ph.D. – STP Coordinator, Co-Primary Investigator
Dr. Ugueto is a Postdoctoral Fellow at Judge Baker Children's Center, Harvard Medical School. She is a director of the Youth Coping Skills Project and Child STEPS Clinic Treatment Project, and is a co-primary investigator on the Summer Treatment Project. Dr. Ugueto received a B.A. in psychology from The University of Texas at Austin (1995), and a M.A. (2002) and a Ph.D. (2005) in child clinical psychology from The Ohio State University. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, IL. Her research interests include the etiology and treatment of childhood depression, with particular interest in developing novel, evidence-based treatments for school-aged girls.
Sara A. Afienko, B.A. – STP Research Assistant, Family Interviewer
Sara is currently a research assistant at Judge Baker Children's Center, Harvard Medical School. Sara graduated from Bowdoin College in 2008 with a bachelor's degree in psychology. Currently, Sara is a research assistant for the Youth Coping Skills Project and Child STEPS Clinic Treatment Project at the Judge Baker Children's Center, Harvard Medical School. She hopes to pursue a career in clinical psychology, with plans to attend a doctoral program in the fall of 2010.
Janine Slavec, HBSc – Lead Counselor
Janine is currently a second year PhD student in the Developmental-Clinical Psychology program at the University of Maine, working under the supervision of Dr. Erika Coles. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Toronto, where she helped conduct research on parent-child relations and child compliance. Her research interests include the effectiveness of evidence-based interventions for ADHD, as well as identification/referral of children within ADHD to treatment. This summer will be Janine’s second year as a lead counselor at the STP.
Melissa Bernstein, B.S. – Lead Counselor
Melissa Bernstein is currently a first year PhD student in the Developmental-Clinical Psychology doctoral program at the University of Maine. She received her B.S. in Psychology from the University at Buffalo. Melissa’s research interests include psychosocial treatments for children with ADHD, specifically how to assess and improve child-teacher interactions and classroom management. This summer will be Melissa’s first year as a lead counselor at the STP.
